I ordered a music theory review book a week or so ago after searching the internet for something to help me prepare for my grad school entrance exams. I dreaded it's coming because that meant I'd have to, you know, study.
But today I saw it sitting in the pile of mail on the counter. I was still a bit apprehensive about it's presence in my life and what it meant for me (haha) but once I opened it up and started looking through it, it was like I was hugging an old friend I hadn't seen in years. Altered chords?! Secondary dominants?! Good Lord, I was even a bit happy to see Chapter 9 section E "the Principles of part writing" and part writing and I were NEVER EVEN FRIENDS.
I never hated music theory. I always found it very interesting, but could never quite get my mind wrapped around all of the principles I needed to. So wish me luck on this studying thing, cause after the initial excitement of getting this book in the mail I'll probably be like "Ah, f*** it" and end up having to take remedial theory after all.
And I still need to re-learn how to play the piano. Damn it!
